The Feminist Association Unioni

The Feminist Association Unioni (Naisasialiitto Unioni ry) is a feminist and antiracist non-governmental organisation established in 1892. We are based in Finland and currently have over 2 000 members.
Unioni represents intersectional feminism concentrating on women’s rights. Intersectionality refers to the recognition that different forms of oppression often overlap and intersect, creating unique and varied experiences of discrimination.
In order to promote political, economic and social equality of the genders and to raise feminist consciousness in the Finnish society, Unioni makes public statements, publishes expert opinions on feminist issues and comments on pending legislations.
Unioni publishes Tulva, a feminist magazine included amongst our member benefits. The Gender Equality in Early Childhood Education project, managed by Unioni, has been running since 2010.
Unioni offers concrete help for women through various services, such as free legal advice every Wednesday. We host feminist events, are the home of various discussion and action groups and offer residency for feminist artists and researchers. In addition, Unioni rents facilities at the historic Maikki Friberg Home and Villa Salin.
Unioni is a member of NYTKIS ry, the Coalition of Finnish Women’s Associations, and thus a member of the European Women’s Lobby (EWL). Since 1904, Unioni has been an affiliate organisation of the International Alliance of Women.
